Kobe Bryant 48 points vs Raptors 2004-05 *Preview of 81 pts*

Everyone in this basketball world, Laker fan or not, knows about the greatest basketball performance in NBA history. Everyone knows about the 9 consecutive jumpshots, the slaughter, the comeback, and the free throws to get to 81 points. But what it overshadows is a different story. It was one year and 25 days before the famous game. It was the final home game before they would meet on the same floor again the next season. That was the game after Shaquille Oneal's famous revisit to the Staples Center in a different uniform on Christmas day. That was the game where Kobe Bryant scored 48 points, driving and slashing against the entire team despite having his body torn apart. He drove to the point it became a Dwyane Wade type game.

Early in the quarter, Kobe struggled having 2 early turnovers and shooting 1-3. He injured his left shoulder twice having to got to the locker room on 2 drives. He also had leg problems at the beginning of the season that was still bothering him. But he came back 7 seconds later as if nothing happened and continued to drive and drive. He went on to have 4 and 1 layups on drives to the basket. The Toronto Raptors tried playing zone, man to man, and double team, but none of that mattered to Kobe. He used his explosive first step quickness which was at it's peak in his career. Then he stepped outside and hit 4 straight jumpshots and a free throw to ice the game. Had the refs not called one of Kobe's threes a 2(2nd three of the 4th quarter) and had Kobe made both free throws at the end, it would have been a 50 point game.

Other Notes
-This was the 2nd game of a mini streak in which Kobe scored 3 straight 40+ point games.

Kobe DID suck this year. He had a Lebron type year. Weak jumpshot, slasher type player, inconsistent, horrible defense, and did a lot of carrying/discontinued dribbling. He was just as good as Lebron in 04-05, that's just horrible.
