@matthewboddy The reporter was making the point about all of the players who didn't want to go to the Olympics in Turkey. No one has to go to another country to play basketball. Other countries used the Olympics and International competitions as a means of showing equality to the larger dominant countries. The only time the U.S played this card is when other countries flexed muscle, Like the 80 Olympics , and The Nazi Olympics, Oh and in 1968.

It's just his way of making foreign viewers feel like they are part of the NBA experience, and not the EuroLeague (Stern is making this point to actually make Euro basketball seem like the lesser league).
