Collection agency partner Jeff DiMatteo discusses how American Profit Recovery is much different than most collection agencies. http://www.americanprofit.net/
I worked in the debt collection industry. Not all collectors are the same. I worked with many who really took care of their clients and worked with the borrower to settle debt and make sure everyone was happy. However, there were some who were jerks and treated people unfairly, mostly because of deadlines and quotas. The best ones are the hourly plus commission associates, the worst were the all commission associates, they were out for blood!
@upsetgamer The laws favor the borrower up to a point yes. BUT, every collection agency I've ever heard of IS evil . By and large, they break every law, threaten and attempt to extort people of money, they have NO right to. Make it person, it's cool. You contact an outside organization that doesn't follow the law, well then screw you .
@wesharris6 Right because we know that if one collection agency uses illegal tactics then the whole industry MUST be evil. And therefore every person with debt is a complete saint. Sorry for the personal attack but you are oversimplifying this thing way too much. I am in the process of collecting on a debt and the laws favor the borrower at every turn. If someone borrowed a bunch of money from you I am sure you would rethink your position.
@upsetgamer Your reply is far to late. And yes, these guys DO go after targets. And they DO abuse the law. And yes, if you repossess cars, you do have a certain amount of shame. This IS a horrible industry. The best way to handle it is quite honestly to approach someone in an honest fashion. Debt collectors are evil little trolls, that are only after one thing, our souls.
@wesharris6 Congrats, you are an idiot. Debt collections companies do not exist to hunt "targets". They exist because small and midsize businesses do not have the resources to go after flaky, dishonest, and disingenuous people who think they dont have to pay for what they buy. These small and mid size businesses stay in business because collection agencies will take a gamble and pay pennies on each dollar that is in default. Do you think people who reposess cars are worthy of shame too?
How? Debt collection is a horrible industry to work in. Honestly, massive abuse throughout, not to speak of the horrific way that debt collection workers normally treat their targets. I'd be ashamed of such a business.
