Type 2 Diabetes is a growing epidemic in today's society. Due to our poor lifestyle choices, such as poor diet and lack of physical activity, type 2 diabetes cases are soaring all over the world, mainly in North America and Europe. If type 2 diabetes is left untreated and uncontrolled, the symptoms and consequences can be potentially fatal. The risk of developing type 2 diabetes can be decreased but we cannot just focus on lifestyle choices and behaviour modifications alone. The increased prevalence of type 2 diabetes is also influenced by socio-economic, environmental, political, social, educational, and biological factors.

This campaign was produced for a project for York University. Having a holistic or structural perspective on the multitude of factors that contribute to health and disease is what I strive to advocate. We cannot simply change a few factors such as diet and exercise and expect to have enormous health benefits (although it will help significantly). One must also consider their socio-economic status within society, as well as the other factors discussed in this video.

This type 2 diabetes campaign is also targeted towards the young adult population because it is believed that this is the age group that has the most potential for change. By changing our individual behaviours, we can impact an entire population. By raising awareness about type 2 diabetes and the factors that increase type 2 diabetes prevalence, we are taking the first steps towards change.

Help spread the word and make a difference by sharing this video with as many people as possible. Let's fight the type 2 diabetes epidemic together!

  • Oh my this is *very* bad. Saturated fat is *extremely* healthy. One minute of this video is enough for me. This is just idiot guesswork which is causing more problems than it is helping.

  • Sorry but this is fucking ridiculous. You really think arbitrarily repeating words is going to make people watch it more? Get to the point.
