Night-blooming cereus.
This video represents approximately 7 hrs. of real time. I've excluded a portion from the middle of the video because there was very little change during that part.

  • How long did it take to make this video?

  • My camera was shooting all night and it took about an hour to remove a few bad shots and compress the rest into a video.

  • This looks a lot like mine! Sweet!

    When do you prune?

Mine doesn't grow any fruit, does yours?

  • This is the first blossom I've had on this plant, I haven't pruned it yet but from what I've read I think I'll do it soon. No fruit yet either, maybe pruning will help that too.

  • so beautiful! Thanks.

  • I have some huge ones that are in big tubs and have not been repotted in a while ,those are the best bloomers. will have to devide them soon though I hae to they are getting so big cant handle,, I live in changing clomate and have to move indoors in winter, some can't get through a door ,,they transplant very easy and you can take a leaf and put in dirt and it will grow into a plant so you can have a house full of them befor you know it. my prob is i can just throw anything away thats living

  • best to just leave it be ,it will grow all kinds of ways, it will bloom many blooms if left alone and allowed to grow in pot big enough to be left in for a few years. Older plants will bloom if left outside in wamr temps under shade with complete dark at night. night moths and bats pollinate them and help to bloom. have had them for 40 years or more gave to me by my grandmother. had for years before figured out why it hadnt bloomed, then by surprise got them and now bloom every year

  • to make it fruit the flower will have to be well pollinated.well u only need to prune if theirs leafs that look like their not going to flower, have stop growing, and are just holding the plant back.or if your trying to make cuttings but other than that just leave it:)

  • Beautiful.

  • Great video! I didn't even know what this plant was called until after I'd had it about 5-6 years!! Thanks!!

  • I have one that I've made several "gifts" from! My neighbor, whose plant is about 2 years old, had 27 blooms last night, his first display! Mine should bloom about 40-50 tonight. Prune? I've never pruned it other than taking the longest shoots and making new plants from them. How do you prune a plant like this? After about 6 yrs mine grew fruit, 2 last year, and I currently have my "second season" of fruit and only 1. They look like radishes; my plant is about 6 yrs old & we're in FL!
