  • What isn't mentioned here is that this entire evening ("Foxtrot to Heaven at the Cafe de Paris") was organised by The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra, which is the orchestra you can hear playing throughout this clip. At approx 4.55 you can see JOYCE STONE, widow of the legendary band leader LEW STONE, here making a star appearance in February 2011 at the age of 98!

  • @PiccDan Thank you for the information, I will update the video information with this in mind. Fascinating about Joyce Stone as well, lovely story! Was a delight to film the event

  • I would love to have an evening like this when i have a chance to go to Paris :)

  • Further to my messages below, I should clarify that we organised the entire evening EXCEPT for the pianist/singer, whose performance takes up (disproportionately) much of this video. Not shown here are a cabaret performance by Michael Law (singing Noel Coward's "That is the End of the News") and The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra playing a tribute to Lew Stone ("White Jazz"). Is there any footage of this? The filming which IS here is really excellent and imaginative, brilliantly evoking the event!

  • Joyce Stone recalled to me having her 21st birthday party at the Monseigneur Restaurant in 1933, where she asked for Al Bowlly to sing "Heat Wave" for her. She married Lew in 1937 and in 1939, Lew's band was playing at the Cafe de Paris - Joyce recalled waiting on the balcony for Lew to finish his performances - the same balcony where we were conversing 72 years later!
