This is Stage 3, Lesson 5 of Justin's Beginner Guitar Course.

This video explains a very basic finger exercise to help develop your strength, independence and stretch!

The Justinguitar Beginners Guitar Course, a series of over 100 lessons on guitar for beginners. Text support is on the web site and also in a proper old skool paper book which can be ordered from the web site of your local music store :)

Taught by Justin Sandercoe.

Full support at the justinguitar web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! There is a great forum too to get help, no matter what the problem.

And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships, no free ebook. Just tons of great lessons :)

To get help with this lesson (and for further info and tabs), find the Lesson ID in the video title (like ST-667 or whatever) and then look it up on the Lesson Index page of justinguitar.com

Have fun :)

  • Hey Justin your a really good guitar teacher thanks for all tips! But i just thought I'd say something. I think you should introduce alternate picking in these little exercises. If you don't learn alternate picking when your a beginner it is really hard to learn later. I just thought I'd say that!

  • @ joshiscool94- alternate picking happen v soon! I think stage 3 is a touch to early to introduce alternate picking, this is about as basic an exercise as is possible - exactly what I think is important at this early stage...

  • Why not just teach position 1 major scale forms first? It's a better workout, can be applied in exactly this manner, and isn't just a throw away exercise like this one.

And of course then you learn that major 1 positions are applicable all over the neck and whammo! You can play quite alot.

  • because it is to early in the course to learn the Major Scale. That comes later... It's not a throw away exercise, because it develops into a great stretching exercise.

  • kjpdqpb don't u ever talk shit about justin's teaching!!!! i hope u burn in hell JUSTIN RULZ!

  • hey ptran001 - calm down dude - while I appreciate your enthusiasm - hoping the guy burns in hell for making small constructive criticism is a little strong don't you think??

  • I prefer to start with the thinnest string and work it up towards the thickest. That way you begin easy and you end up with the hardest one.

  • My pointer finger wont work for me since i took an arr.... I mean broke it in football : )

  • my wrist hurts, is that normal? 0_0

  • my fingers don't listen to me!!! i need my other hand to pull it apart!!!

  • @Polbeer91 haha me too, I tried bass before, but i got bored because you just can't play alone, well you can but it's a little boring, so I started Justin's course and i found that my fingers have a decent stretch.

  • Dear Justin, Do you ever change clothes?

    Sincerely, your youtube student
