Brigadier General Love is currently serving as the Chief of Staff, Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO in Naples, Italy. He is a native of Abilene, Texas and enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in 1981. He obtained the rank of Corporal before being commissioned in August 1984 following graduation from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree.

In 1985 he was assigned to First Marine Division where he served as a Platoon Commander and Rifle Company Executive Officer in 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, and as a Platoon Commander and Battalion Adjutant in 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. In 1989 he transferred to Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Jacksonville, FL for duties as an Officer Selection Officer and Recruiting Station Executive Officer. In 1992 he attended the Amphibious Warfare School in Quantico, VA.

In 1993 Brigadier General Love was assigned to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, where he served as Assistant Operations Officer, Weapons Company Commander, Operations Officer, and Battalion Executive Officer. In 1997 he attended the Army Command and General Staff College where he earned a Master of Military Art and Science degree. From 1998 to 2001 he served at Headquarters, U.S. Central Command, MacDill AFB, FL where he served one year each as a Ground Plans Officer, Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander, and Deputy Director of the Commander's Action Group. During that period he graduated from the Armed Forces Staff College.

In 2001 Brigadier General Love assumed command of Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry (West), Camp Pendleton, CA. In 2003 he served as the USMC Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC. In 2004 he was assigned as Head, Homeland Defense Branch, Security Division, PP&O, HQMC. From September 2005 to March 2006 he deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM as the Senior Advisor to the Iraqi Director of Operations, Iraqi Joint Headquarters. Upon return he served as Head, Ground Combat Element Branch, Operations Division, PP&O, HQMC.

In June 2007 he assumed duties as Commanding Officer, 8th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division. From January to October 2009, he deployed Regimental Combat Team 8 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 09. From January through March 2010 he served as the 2d Marine Division G-3, and from March to July 2010 he served as the Division Chief of Staff.

Brigadier General Love's decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit (one gold star), the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (one gold star), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Navy League's General Holland M. Smith Award for Operational Competence.

Brigadier General Love is married and has two sons who are both Marines.
