Be sure to direct the needle perpendicular to the skin surface (as opposed to inserting the needle thru the skin on an angle). Insert the needle right thru the skin with an assertive stick, rather than a slow methodical insertion that prolongs the prick or pain.
Some puppies whimper more than others, just like children.

I gave my puppy his shot today (chihuahua). He squalled so hard when I did it and seems to have a sore spot now. Other than that, he's been playing, sleeping, and going potty as usual. Just squeaks a bit if I accidentally touch the spot he got his shot. The puppy in the video didn't even flinch. Tucker is 6 weeks old and I have to do it again in 4 weeks. Do you have any suggestions for making it less painful? Did I do something wrong? I'm a phlebotomist so I didn't think this would be so tough!
