24p with a cheap point and shoot -- canon a1200

I bought a point and shoot camera for my 12-year old son yesterday to keep him busy this summer. He will use it mainly to learn Photoshop and After Effects. The Canon A1200 cost me $106 (USD), exactly Php 4,600 (mall price), and it's probably the best (video) camera one could buy in this price range. My only gripe with it is that it records audio at 12khz sample rate. you won't find out about this info until you finally view your files in the computer. they didn't even put it in the manual. this presents a problem when editing inside premier, because 12khz sample rate is not an option for a sequence. the lowest option in premier is 32khz. of course no one really uses this sorta camera for professional purposes, nonetheless, it's still a bummer. i'm not sure if other NLE's can handle 12khz.

here are the VIDEO features i love about it:

- Exposure Lock during filming
- Selectable WB
- Selectable Picture Style (Neutral, Vivid, B&W, Sepia, etc)
- Miniature (tilt shift) effect
- 24fps
- Macro, Normal, and infinity mode

The things i don't like:
- records audio at a weird sample rate of 12khz
- doesn't auto focus while zooming in and out.

@rawdogg you can just use the blur effect in post. you can't shoot miniature without the fast forward effect.

to date this is my favorite film making gear, with a 10 dollar slider i made, and a 126 led lamp. everything fits in a latop backpack, lol.

Why is its playback mode too fast? It goes from 5x, 10x and 20x. Can I change it to the normal speed? And I wonder why there is no sound.

When im shoot a video and using miniature effect on this camera play back on the file is fast motion,how to set in normal while using this effect? like what u do on your video.pls help me give me suggestions.thanks..
