Direct A/B comparison between a Northern Ash body/Rosewood fretboard strat and a Alder body/Maple fretboard model, both utilizing Klein S-7 (aka "EJ Special") pickups. Identical amps settings, pickups set at identical heights, identical string brand and gauge on each guitar.

  • Awesome demo man! Personally I like the warmth of the rosewood. But if I may make a suggestion, when doing such a demo, maybe best not to put any effects so one can really hear the raw sound. Just sayin. Still, nice vid! :)

  • @fendergibson154 Thanks for the compliments - actually the effects on the clean examples were minimal - just a little echo and natural reverb from the amp - as for the rhythm and lead examples they were just overdrive and echo...

  • It's all just improvised off the top of my head - not any specific song, just kind of riffing in different styles - some of the dirty rhythm stuff after 2:50 has a little bit of a Van Halen feel, but it's not any exact song...

  • Which one do you prefer? great playing by the way

  • @rhye999 They sound a lot more different in person - the compression from the YT conversion masks a lot of the differences - the blue one has a sharper attack and a lot of sustain, but has a bassier, more scooped sound overall - I like to use it more for ballads, especially with the floating trem. The maple has a smoother attack but is clearer overall, and I use it more for rock material because it has a lot of definition to chords. Chris Klein's pickups make both sound great though...

  • I think you should move the rosewood neck to the alder and the maple to the ash... the alder guitar will have fat tones.. and the maple will solo like a wild cat. cheers. nice playing

  • I think the alder/maple has more punch

  • @TRWilley

looks like the chord progression from the intro of panama

  • The differences are actually much, much more due to the body wood (northern ash vs. alder) than the scale wood.

  • what are the songs you play in this Video? espscially the one from 2:50!

  • i like maple better
