i jumped 10 ft today with a 3.5 kite this works !

i do alot of recreational kite flying including jumping scudding and buggying
and this is the CORRECT way to make a kite jump also known as a pendulum jump

ooooooo 2 feet of air.....

3m kite for jumping is pretty crappy, can be done but no hang time really. i kite surf but also have a landkite. I found that the Brand of kite plays a big part in the air time. i have a SLINGSHOT B4 land kite and in 20-30knots it is way more dangerous than my 12m water kite, mainly cause it is a "constant' traction kite (no depower). 20-30 knots on this kite will send you 10-15ft high and up to 50 ft long for anyone between 70-85kg!...hard and fast landings though.

@ultimatekiter , your comment is a fail, if you think this is hard, then you are a bit of a whussy

Very clear! Thank you!

@chrizzle63 yes you can. ive heard about a 65kgs make 3-5m jumps with 3m
-
@chrizzle63 it depends on the strength of the wind. I think in 4,5- 5 bft it could be possible but it depends also on the kite. I am flying a peter lynn twister II 7.7m^2. This one is optimized for jumping because of the strong lift. From a wind of about 3 bft it is possbile to jump with my 75 kg for excample. At 4-5 bft with a kite sized like mine, kiting starts to become dangerous if you have not enaugh practice.
this is the hard way plus you have to get it exactly right to work so failure

@ultimatekiter Once you get a bit of practice at it, it works fine. How do you jump? I've tried other techniques but this will take you higher and put you down more gently than anything else.

Ok. But how big need my kite to be?

It depends on your weight and skill level. For someone starting, I'd say you will want a moderately lift kite around the 5m mark.

Again, it depends on your weight. I'd say probably not. It's possible to jump with small kites but it's much harder to safely learn. You will float much less and things will go wrong much faster.
