Hot Spot is a 30-minute safety production where specially trained Cleco employees teach children about the dangers of overhead power lines and demonstrate real-life situations where children could come into contact with those lines. Any time electricity can come into direct contact with you or something you are touching, it's a Hot Spot. Actual electrical equipment is used in the demonstration to graphically show the dangers associated with contacting energized power lines. While the primary goal is to teach children about electrical safety, adults can learn what to look out for, too.
Cleco takes Hot Spot on the road in the spring of each year for approximately two weeks. Schools in Cleco's service territory are encouraged to book the presentation during the two-week tour. For more information, contact Cleco's corporate office at (318) 484-7400 and ask for a representative in the Corporate Communications department.
Because our research shows the electrical safety message is most effective with children around the ages of 10 or 11, we ask that fourth-grade students be included in every presentation.
