  • It's not such a weird progression at all.....70s Santana.....any song.......

  • @joerod0 - I said the prog isn't weird, the structure of 14 bars is.

  • What is the big grey box on the amp?

  • @bmwm3cs - Dr Z Air Brake attenuator

  • Hi Dave, Thanx for the Jam with me Series. I am confused about the D7 Chord. In Am I thought E7 was our Dominant chord. Is the D7 chord considered some kind of secondary dominant chord? I would see this as the V7 in G major. This theory thing just kills me! Thanx

  • @tressiw - Any chord can be dominant, it's whether or not it sounds good. Don't let theory bully you into thinking otherwise. Look at most blues.. it's all dominant chords!

  • Hey, just discovered your video lessons here. It's great and I would like to check them all out. Just one request though...I'd love it if you would just kind of get to the lesson. No disrespect meant, but it was half way thru video before I heard a note. Less talking and repeating yourself (again no disrespect meant), and more of the lesson/ riff would keep me coming back. Thanks!!

  • @tressiw I think the thought here is that dominant chord = seventh chord (major triad with a minor 7th on top). It sounds like your thinking dominant as in the chord built the 5th scale degree of the scale. In the case of a minor, that would be E7, and D would be called the predominant and actually be minor.

  • @tressiw Dominant refers also to the chord type. The 7 chord is a dominant 7 chord as opposed to a Major 7 chord, so the chord is a major triad with a minor 7th instead of a major 7th. Dorian is the 2nd major mode, so what was your chord ii in G major is now your chord I in A dorian. This makes the V7 chord of G major the IV7 chord of A dorian. In case you didn't understand in the video, dorian is like minor but with a major 6th so, as Dave said, it's like A minor but with an F# instead of F.

  • Thank you kryptic 1234 I appreciate your time to help me out.

  • Hey Dave just want to say i think this is a great idea, the most useful guitar videos on YouTube in my opinion. Also the throw back improv show us how lucky we actually are to have a player with your level of experience and more importantly musicianship. I'd love to play to one of these with a classic rock major/minor feel. Keep Rocking!
