700,000 tires remain on the reef off Ft Lauderdale. When the next storm hits South Florida these tires will destroy the reef system from Miami to West Palm Beach as the storm travels carrying these tires with it dragging them over the reef system along the coast.
Local,State and Federal agencies have no plan other than apply for millions of dollars for removal. It took 3 million dollars to remove 60,000 tires in 3 years! My company with other Marine Contractors KNOW we can stabilize these tires until the money is found to remove them!
Best part yet is that the netting material used can later be used to hoist the tires up.
As long as the State of Florida and Broward County focus only removal that in fact might actually create a disaster if a storm comes off the Atlantic this year. Write or call someone don't the disaster happen when it can be prevented I have seen so much degradation of the ocean since my scuba diving began circa 1972.
Simply by placing large cargo anchors within the tire bed field and netting anchored between the tires even a tidal surge happens will be kept in place. Cost almost Zero because of donations both material and labor but Govt has prevented any action so we wait
how did this happen???? terrible! i live in CA but this saddens me to see this. thanks for sharing.
