  • They look like animatronics

  • @Lisnageeragh also remember there was a clasical irish music back in the day of o'carolan and he would have aranged irish tunes for classical baroque instruments as well as harp again this shows another phase in the evolution of trad music. so again i say try it with your oboe and experiment

  • i think thats because you cant ornament the notes the same with keyed flutes irish music is heavily influenced by piping ornamentations like the use of crans and rolls i myself use piping ornamentation on my whistle both soprano and alto but i also use my tougue too which you cant use on the pipes, i gues its about limitations and making the most of what you got, i say go ahead and try it oboe is a beautiful instrument and a reed instrument like the pipes

  • @omarshinken Would agree , if it works ...give it a go...my own excursion was going to be oboe , but I was advised not to for lip formation reasons. I am , however very aware of objections to keyed flutes.

  • @Lisnageeragh its just a personal taste thing for me i prefer the mandolin and banjo i also love the irish bouzouki which is a new comer to irish music. as for whats authentic irish trad i dont think there is such a thing as its always evolving there maybe a consistency with certain instruments but new ones have got involed and other fallen into less use. like the war pipes

  • @omarshinken There was some reaction against guitars in trad back in the early revival days ....also accordions were a bit suspect to some ..bodhrans were much rarer ...pipes, fiddles and flutes(simple system) were seen as more ' authentic'.

In this regard have a look at the collection of players at the front of O'Neills collection.

  • my my my..... such strong positions! bravo for the argument fellers. It was far more entertaining than the video..... don't get me wrong, the video was spectacular. However, it pailed in comparison to the bullshit argument you two had.............. IDIOTS

  • @omarshinken I know it's your dream to to be with a senior citizen. It must be difficult for a dickhead like you to get anybody under 65.

  • @darkoanton5 very funny i will remember that next time i climb off your mother

  • @omarshinken So no accordion and no guitar. Nice. Let's call in the New York Philharmonic.
