WONG:
18 years ago on June 3rd 1989, the Chinese communist regime dispatched several hundred thousand troops to Beijing, to suppress students and other protesters who were peacefully calling for democracy.

In the early morning hours of June 4th, the soldiers opened fire on protesters in, and around, Tiananmen Square, chasing people with tanks and mowing them down with machine guns; bringing a violent and bloody end to the nearly two month long grassroots democratic movement.

This event is etched in the minds of millions of people around the world as the June 4th, 1989, Tiananmen Square Massacre. During these two months there were so many key defining moments that led up to that fateful day. And today we recount the particularly inspiring episode that took place on the afternoon of May 23rd.

The incident may have seemed insignificant at the time. But it completely changed the lives of three courageous young men from Hunan Province. Here's their story.

  • I wouldn't call the three vandals heroes, as what they have done went against what the demonstrators wanted. But I do sympathize for their suffering very much. The real heroes are the ones who stood in front of the guns and tanks.

    God rest their souls!

  • Wow...Life sentence? For vandalism? Madness...

  • It is true that Americans killed about 10 million people throughout its history, but if we compare with China, we will see that China in less than 50 years killed only in her territory 50 million people, and millions of people in Vietnam, Tibet, and other lands. You guys know what is 50 million compared to about 10 million? China should apologise and understand that what they did was wrong, otherwise they will not be in the position to talk bad about Japan, US and Europe.

  • The BBC did do a good account of the Iraq War, you don't live in the UK so you wouldn't know how many BBC articles we got. On the other hand, the BBC did not do coverage on the White House as it was 1. Probably unallowed and 2. it may damage British-American relations

Now, if you think that the PRC government's actions here were justified; sending in the army to repress an unarmed protest, then you are a Fascist Nazi that needs to go to hell along with Hitler.
