Namzi/ Namuyi Tibetan Scripture

Dashui Village is located in Minshen Town, Xichang City, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, PR China. Traditionally, there were two types of Namzi religious specialists in the village (1) ashe who conducted rituals by reading the scriptures and (2) phatse who cannot read scriptures--he orally repeats sacred words. In 2010, there were no more ashe in the village and only a few phatse in Namzi areas.

These manuscripts featured here were owned by the family of a religious specialist in Dashui Village. The father of the family was a phatse. He tried to teach his son oral chants and various ritual procedures.

These scriptures were videoed by Libu Lakhi in 2000 when he was at home for the Lunar New Year celebrations.
