Lena Horne belts songs from "South Pacific" and "Gypsy" in this 1962 TV show. She looks awesome but I am not too fond of that padded dress!

  • This is fabulous. What is it from??? Thanks for sharing,

  • @m4modern It's from a 1962 Milton Berle Show, Lena is 44-45 years old. I wish she had recorded these songs but didn't - she was changing record companies.

Sorry the quality of the video isn't too good. I know there's a better one out there but nobody posted it.

  • @lenahorneclub she recorded I Can't Get It Out of My Heart...its on her Stormy Weather compilation cd.

  • @ensemblist WHAT? That's not a song title.

  • And, look at her setting. An almost blank stage . . . filled with nothing but TALENT!!!

  • How many DIVAs today can say they have had there pictures carried into several wars: My grandfather had a pin-up of Lena when he went off to war, my father in the air force, and when I went to Viet Nam I had a picture of Lena from an Ebony magazine pictorial in a frame in my bunker--one guy thought it possibly couldn't be Lena still looking so fantastic. Who cares about the dress, Lena looked good in anything!

  • I got to have that dress!!!

  • This song Is too funny. I heard this in the Musical play "South Pacific".

I love Lena Horne. I have to admit, The Media pretty much stayed out of her business, She is and will always be Pure Class!.

  • She's my Beauty Icon

  • i want her hips lol i lv u lena!!

  • @lenahorneclub I think the song @m4modern is referring to is " A Cockeyed Optimist."

  • @louiscaponecchia Libby Holman? Sophie Tucker?

  • LOVE LENA HORNE..

  • @SweetBrwnSuga Thank you. I don't know what part of the country you reside in. But The Los Angeles Sentinel, a top o' the line newspaper directed at African Americans, carried the obituary recently of Juliette Ball, Horne's understudy in many a film. While not a dead ringer for Horne, Ball carried that uppercrust mystique seen in so many women of color of the time. Ball was 92 years of age and born in Alabama.

  • @ccaammiiittoo1 i know! She is so big as she perfroms, she cannot stand still. But it suits her.... RIP Lady Horne. Im bout to watch the Wiz and think how most of the cast has passed away. Anwhoo, let me go do that.

  • @lenahorneclub thank you :)
