  • He is not a chops monster. But consider his total output as a cowriter, as a very innovative sound designer, and as an arranger. The guy created something brand new in the world of pop and rock guitar, something that has inspired millions and endured for decades. Edge deserves his props.

  • my favorite is until the end of the world

  • @theeltea I get your point absolutely. At the end, our perceptions will determine whether our expectations for any artist are successfully fulfilled. On the other hand, I find quite remarkable to debate such things properly without resorting to completely subjective thoughts which might inevitably conduct us into a very personal assessment. Anyhow, despite the fact I have spent hours and hours listening U2, I always show preference towards any kind of good music.

  • The Edge isn't really a soloist. He's a really excellent rhythm player that can do a respectable job of soloing.. The main thing is that his solos sound......nice.... And as far as effects go: it takes musicianship to know where effects belong and how to utilize them in a fashion that complements the overall sound of the band.. I think he's great.. U2 are by no means my favorite band (more like High On Fire), but I can appreciate them and even enjoy them from time to time.. :)

  • Hay varios pero el de "In God´s country" me pone la piel de gallina.

  • excelente recopilacion !!!!!!!!

  • @mgljimcmgl I can perfectly well understand your reasoning and you are reasonable. It's just about our outlooks and perceptions of what good music is really! :)

And no no, I'm by all means subjective... Music is an emotional thing, and U2 songs have a lot of sentimental value for me, I grew up on them. D.T.? Well, not so much... But I do admire Petrucci, Portnoy and Rudess is my all-time-hero as a MUSICIAN! As a band which touches the soul? U2... Hands down..

Anyways, was fun reading you! ^_^

  • @theeltea And there´s nothing wrong about such matter.

  • @theeltea I don´t have any negative attitude towards The Edge, I just try to point some objective aspects related with his approach with the instrument. You can´t even imagine how much time I have been listening and studying his music. Calling unemotional music to D.T is also quite subjective, so your statement is not as objective as you have pretended to reflect it. Nevertheless, I am still remarking some vital points which should be considered in order to analyse The Edge as a guitarrist.

  • @mgljimcmgl All that "delay based, basic & simple" jazz, my dear sir, is absolutely irrelevant to the end-listener. What you call "greatness" though, is subjective, as you probably do realize. You know, you try to make a point that guitarist should constantly "improve his guitar playing", but actually, from a listener's standpoint, he should improve on the music as a whole... I've seen quite a few examples where too much technique led to overly complex and unemotional music... Dream theater eh?

  • @mgljimcmgl Oh come on, reading through your posts it just shows that you have a negative attitude towards The Edge... Yes, he's a sound design guitarst, so what? I'd take The Edge over any virtuoso-techinque guitarist any day... He's Irish, you know...
