What is the chord shape of the intro/chorus? I've been playing it withA, G# Minor, and F# Minor barre chords. But the way you do it sounds better. I can't figure out your fingering just by looking at it.

@HolidayInGuantanamo my thoughts as well. But i think what it really is, is the music. The music itself is very poetic, so any words a songwriter can throw at good music, can make those words seem meaningful. Imagine those very words thrown at bad music, people would then initially cling onto the lyrics to find meaning if the music is bad. But since r.e.ms music is gorgeous (which it is) people will initially cling onto to the music and assume the lyrics must mean something no matter what.

@codern True! I could never figure out how the song could have such an effect on me when I could only make out a few lines in the song. Maybe the few that I could understand were enough to make it mean something.
