Washington Irving play Phantom Buck live at The Lexington in London on Thursday 30 September 2010, supporting Dry The River.
This was the Glasgow band's first ever London gig and they played a blinder! In fact, they literally brought the house down! In case you don't know, the expression is believed to originate in the Music Halls of the 19th century -- when the act appearing on stage was so good that they would bring the house (the audience) down from the bar at the back of the venue into the stalls to watch. Well that's exactly what happened at the Lexington last Thursday! When the band opened their set they commented that they, "can't see anyone out there" -- most of the audience was in the raised bar area at the back. A couple of songs later they remarked, "Oh, there's a lot of you out there now!" and by the time they closed, with the crowd-pleasing Dear Liza, the front of stage area was filled with a totally won-over whooping and cheering throng! Job done. Good work guys! Come back to London soon.
Phantom Buck can be found on Washington Irving's debut 5-track EP, 'Little Wanderer, Head Thee Home' (Instinctive Racoon Records), together with the aforementioned Dear Liza and the equally rousing Sisi. Highly recommended.
I love this band!
