Sambayanihan-Filipino Ministry of St Mary Church (Huntley)

Psalm 118: This is the day - Scott Soper
Translated into ASL by David Bar-Tzur

Refrain:
This is the day the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad;
this is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad;
(alleluia, alleluia! )

Give thanks to God; the Lord is good.
God's mercy endures forever.
Let the house of Israel say:
"God's mercy endures forever."

The Lord's right hand is lifted up;
the hand of the Lord is mighty.
I shall not die, but live to tell
the marvelous works of God.

The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This is the work of the Lord;
how wonderful, how wonderful in our eyes!

  • Great to see Michael Joncas on YouTube! Thanks for posting.

    One thing I will add is that this song was written to be extremely heavy. It does start out light, but you must leave room for the music to develop! The refrains need to be rallied and the accompaniment (especially on the final refrain) more deep and weighty. On that last refrain each note should be almost painful to sing yet at the same time, marvelously joyous! That's Michael Joncas for 'ya. :)

    FYI: Organ is great on this one!
