@toriloveSubarukun you can catch a hawk or falcon using bal chatri traps which I think are cheap and effective.
-
@NathanRW this breed is illegal to buy, apprentice falconers must trap their hawk during certain months and the hawk must be young no more then a year i believe

As somebody who is researching becoming an apprentice falconer (you have to spend two years, at least, being taught by someone else more experience than you) I recommend themodernapprentice dotte com. Excellent start-off for learning about the sport/hobby/livelihood.

@taylor123168 you have to become a falconer, i believe you have to be 16 ( or 18 i cant remember ) you have to pass a test, and you work with a master falconer.

Then you have to find a general or master class falconer willing to sponsor you for two years while your an apprentice. Then you have to build a mews(hawk house) and a weathering area and get all the required gear. Then you have a department of wildlife official inspect your gear. Then you put in paperwork for your state and federal licences as well as your trapping permit. Once you get your permits you are ready to trap a hawk. As an apprentice you may trap a red-tailed hawk or a kestrel.

For everyone interested in falconry- First off this is for hunting not pet keeping. Also Falconry takes up so much time that it is a lifestyle not just a side hobby. You spend almost all of your free time with your bird. As for how to get into it there are many requirements which also take a lot of time and money. First off you must take a hunters safety course and get a hunting license. Then you must study up on Falconry and take a test and pass it with a minimum of 80%. CONTINUED.

@NathanRW You also need to be licensed not only by the state but also by the federal government. Your neighbor is slightly off about hunting crow with a RT, they hunt mostly ground animals, they've been known to take a bird every now and then, but not on the wing and usually only as an act of opportunism. Falcons hunt birds on the wing, as well do Cooper's Hawks. If he wants to hunt crow, he should go for a Coops, but as an apprentice he can only go with a RT or a Kestrel. I'm a falconer too

I dont think its illegal as long as you have a license but as far as catching one thats proably illegal but hes looks like he knows a hell of a lot about falconry.

@toriloveSubarukun As Far as I know it is illegal to buy one, but one can transfer a raptor to another but there can be no exchange of money. Look on youtube for a bal-chatri trap.
I'm too poor to buy one from a breeder, how did you catch one??? I'd love any advice you can give me!

@toriloveSubarukun I'm not sure. I just filmed my neighbor, I know nothing about Falconry. But I think you'd have to talk to a trainer to find out how to get one, you need the proper equipment so you don't hurt the bird.
