And you're totally right, most companies just use it to drop advertisement down and leave totally a waste of money and resources when with just a little more effort they could actually sell the real life products from in world.
I think the best way to get more real life companies to invest in Second Life and to sell their products via the Second Life viewer you would have to grab a hold the attention of companies that already have a system of online ordering in place, and not wait for them to come to you, go to them and pitch your ideas Linden Labs!
Imagine Ebay auctions in Second Life..lol. I would love to order groceries. It can happen. Most companies are just are doing the wrong things to make themselves legit in sl
I think second life would be a perfect tool to do all sorts of online shopping, not just for things used in-world. For example, Perhaps you could order a pizza in Second Life by constructing one via a menu, Pizza Hut already has online ordering, why not bring it into Second Life, people want a quick and easy way to eat while on sl...lol. If you can pay xstreet terminals money then surely you can pay a cash register responsible for handling bills for rl items.
This guy knows his stuff. Already huge companies have come & failed in SL because they don't understand that SL is somewhere to play 1st then somewhere to sell. Most successful ppl offer sponsored parties where they give away SL products, then steer users to their real world products.
Yes, the thing is that these big companies that want to sell us real world things, need to figure out what is going to get people to take notice in SL. Put up big billboards and sorry but it's just an eyesore.
