SEA DOGS RING IN NEW YEAR WITH IMPRESSIVE WIN

SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- The Saint John Sea Dogs dominated the arch-rival Moncton Wildcats in a 4-0 win on New Year's Eve, kicking off the celebration for a sold-out crowd.

Saint John's top line did most of the damage as the Sea Dogs finished 2010 with a win before a crowd of 6,488. Jonathan Huberdeau, Steven Anthony and Zack Phillips had a goal and an assist each for Saint John. Kevin Gagne added a goal for the second straight night, and finished with a team-best plus-3 along with Guillaume Cloutier.

Jacob DeSerres made 28 saves and picked up an assist for his first point as a Sea Dog.

Shane Owen turned away 43 shots in the loss as the Sea Dogs outshot the Wildcats in all three periods, finishing with a 47-28 edge on the shot clock.

Saint John (30-5-0-2) wrapped up the 2010 portion of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season without a regulation loss at home, running their record at Harbour Station to 18-0-0-1. The Wildcats, losers of all three meetings with the Sea Dogs, fell to 20-15-1-3.

The Sea Dogs got the party started with first-period goals three minutes and 25 seconds apart. Huberdeau opened the scoring at 10:10 with his 25th of the year, set up by Anthony, who followed with his 13th from Phillips and Huberdeau.

After a scoreless second period, Phillips tallied his team-leading 26th at 3:55 of the third. Nathan Beaulieu sent Phillips in on Owen, and he notched the insurance marker to make it 3-0. DeSerres got the other assist.

With the Sea Dogs seemingly in control, captain Mike Thomas dropped the mitts with Olivier D'aoust at centre ice shortly thereafter, and both tough guys went toe-to-toe in a draw.

Recently acquired Dog Alexandre Beauregard also engaged in spirited fisticuffs in his Harbour Station debut, joining Thomas in the box after tangling with six-foot-four, 231-pound Tyler Howe.

Kevin Gagne added to the celebratory atmosphere, rounding out the summary at 9:04 by making it 4-0 with his sixth of the year. Stephen MacAulay and Ryan Tesink picked up the assists.
