  • @exxtremeo Actually you don't need to heat the tubes in guitar amps before turning on the B+, only transmitter tubes need that because they operate at thousands of volts! Standby switches on guitar amps were only ever meant as a mute switch. These days they just help sell amps because guitarists think they must be needed. Truth is, they can damage amps because of cathode poisoning and choke flyback voltage causing arcs in the standby switch and rectifier tube!

  • can i use this one to read mVDC???????cuz this Vid he's reading in mA???help pls

  • What's the name of the testing equipment he used to bias the power tubes?

  • You should also turn the volume / gain controls down to zero before taking the amp out of standby to bias...if you bias hot like this guy does check the amp for idle hiss before replacng the chassis...turn the vol up, if there's too much noise for you then back off the bias adjustment until it pleases your ear. I usually set it as high as possible while it still runs quiet...not always possible but usually is...fwiw

  • good video compaired to most on you you tube.

  • all i know is that iv heard to never, ever, ever, EVER hold the glass bottle of the tube while shimmying it into the socket because you can put tiny cracks in the glue that holds the glass to the plastic base when you apply pressure to shove them in there. i did that once and ended up with a hairline crack in a nice KT77 right at the base a couple months after i retubed. ALWAYS hold tubes by the base when you're inserting them into the sockets. It may not be as easy but its sure worth it.

  • Usually the main power switch turns on the heater circuit without turning the high B+.

You will want to "heat" the tubes up before turning on the B+. B+ is the high voltage that runs thru the plate which is often over 200v. Some tubes runs over 400v.

  • I notice that tube amps have a standby switch and a power switch but what is the standby switch for?

  • (continued) help you measuring the correct current. if you know electronics any multimeter will do the job. if you dont you should better keep your hands off anyway. tube amps contain deadly voltages even when plugged off. its probably not worth buying this tool unless you want to bias a lot of amps.

  • he uses the tad biamp master, thats from a (german, i think) website called tube amp doctor (tad)

the bias master is simply an amperemeter together with the adapters that
