This tutorial shows how you can use dryer sheets/ fabric softener sheets that have all ready been used in your dryer and turn them into a beautiful mixed media art piece(s). Or create fabulous mixed media art cloths for use in sewing projects.

  • did you ever try ironing the dryer sheets to the freezer paper before gluing them?

  • @RoyalMusicmaker No, I haven't but it's a good idea and would eliminate some of the initial fiddling around trying to get the dryer sheet to lay flat. Thank you!

  • I enjoyed this video, gives me lots of ideas. Just a couple of things, did you farnish the end result ? Do you peel off the freezer paper when dried or is it left on ? Many thanks. Beverley.

  • @40zoeann the art work is pretty well sealed because of the PVA glue I use, so I don't add any varnish to the end product, but I suppose you could for added protection. The artwork will peel right up from the freezer paper once it's dry. In fact sometimes it may be necessary, once the front is dry, to peel it off the freezer paper and turn it over so the back can dry thoroughly. Good Luck and have fun!

  • I'm so glad you enjoyed the video Tiedyekris! I plan on making more video tutorials soon. I just recently made an art journal cover using these fun little creations and it turned out fantastically!

  • HI Kristen (Diane from My Art Journal blog and Suzi's class : ) I know who your are now--as soon as I saw your last name--I love this technique. I have a question? Is this just a regular decorative napkin that you put on the dryer sheet. And if it is, did you separate it to down to just one layer or did you keep all of the plys of the napkin together? I love this--keep uo with more videos!!

  • @dedionisio Hi Diane, I'm glad you like the video. To answer your question, I used regular decorative napkins and I take them down to single ply because I like the translucent effect...Paper towels that you've dyed or used to clean paint off brushes etc...work really well too, and I use them whole, not separated. Paper towels gave the dryer sheet more strength and thickness...Hope that helps and thanks for the compliments!

  • @krstnwatts I love your videos - and just brought all my old dryer sheets into the studio to try your method on! I'm definitely going to try ironing them first, just to eliminate, as you say, the initial fiddling around.
