Shows how SolidWorks/COSMOS can be used to find natural vibration frequencies of structures. What do they mean? How to avoid resonance.

  • MSC Patran does vibrational analysis too, but does it come up with new design ( geometry or mass change) as a result of resonance ? I would appreciate any information.

  • @mrInVinCibl3 . Yes. You will need to buy a module known as "Optimization". You will need to contact a SolidWorks reseller in your area to buy that (I am not authorized to sell it and I don't know the current price). Good luck!

  • Thank you for that fantastic tutorial! I just started using solidworks and bought the SolidWorks 2011 book which covers beginner to advanced topics, and is very comprehensive. I often use the book as a reference to go through.

You can get it @ solidworksbook[.]com

  • @tayvasily Thank you. Please also see the GoEngineer YouTube channel, as I am writing current simulation videos for them. We do about one per week - Tony

  • I believe ANSYS makes an add-on for AutoDesk products. they should have a frequency finder. If not, you could estimate it with a static analysis. Just bend the object in the direction that it might be forced to vibrate and extract the stiffness,K. Then, the resonance frequency (for that bent shape) will approximately be omega (radians/sec) = square root (K/M). Since full mass won't participate, the frequency estimated this way, is expected to be a bit low.

  • TALK SLOWER! damn...

  • The computer has something called a "Rewind" button you moron!

  • @Sigsite723 much appreciated

  • Is it possible to get this addon for AutoDesk? If not, can you direct me to a *good* page for finding resonance of an object?

  • I thought it was a computer talking the whole time! Great video. You do talk a little fast, but really if you are running FEA on anything you should already know what this is all about. Pretty damn good review though. Thanks!
