NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Decca 31912) Out of Los Angeles, one of the more highly regarded and collectable singles of the Girl Group/Girl Pop era. Recorded in late 1965 and issued in February of 1966, fourteen year old Beverly Williams sings 'He's Hurtin' Me' with a very convincing and soulfully mature vocal delivery. Produced by Gary Usher with a fantastic, 'Surf meets Spector' arrangement by Stu Phillips, its a shame that this top notch production didn't achieve hit status for Miss Williams. While she recorded about seven known tracks between 1964 and 1966, 'He's Hurtin' Me' b/w 'Heart' were the only two ever issued. Five of the other tracks were eventually included on a compilation CD issued in 2004.

  • What ever happened to Beverly? No info on the net

  • @28mark I'd sure like to know. YouTuber, sunshinetunes67 actually had contact with her at least two years ago. She actually sent him some photo scans of her at Gold Star studio with Gary Usher and some session players. They can be seen at his upload of Bev's recording of 'Heart', the flip to 'He's Hurtin' Me'.

  • Outstanding vocal performance by a girl who's voice sounds well beyond her years. Thanks, Anthony, great post.

  • A+++++!!! Thanks for posting the label info - knew that Gary Usher produced but not that Stu Phillips arranged. If I had known about it '66, I would have bought it!

  • A friend of mine introduced me to Miss Williams and she sure is awesome! Do check her fabulous version of "Heart". She does that one better than the punk or R&B versions by The Remains and The Liverpool Five.

  • A shame indeed, for this is fantastic!

  • thumbs up!

  • love this anthony, nice one.
