@colddeathtrap Fundamentals and exercises. It also helps to play fast songs you wanna learn at a slower pace and work your way up. fats down picking is much harder than fast alternate picking. That you just have to do nonstop till you build up the speed and dexterity. Practice makes perfect, no special tricks just time and commitment.

@colddeathtrap That depends. If you want to get faster at picking riffs then just playing things like Rattlehead or Master Of Puppets will help. Whenever working on speed it's important not to play things that you find really hard or haven't memorized yet. The mental blocks / hesitation are the biggest obstacles for playing fast. I don't do a lot of exercises but one that I do is the arpeggio part in my song U-Boat Terror - you can find it on my channel.
