Director Jerry Rose brings to life Eugene O'Neill's final play on the Acrosstown Mainstage beginning May 6th.

This was Eugene O'Neill's last play, and one of his best. It follows the story of A Long Day's Journey Into Night, with its autobiographical depiction of O'Neill's own family's descent into self-destruction. Moon focuses on O'Neill's effort to provide a posthumous gift of forgiveness for his older brother James Jr., wh...o died of alcoholism at an early age.
To accomplish this, O'Neill imagines a fictitious rural Irish Connecticut family in which "Jim" finds relief both in the camaraderie of Irish humor with the farmer and his daughter, and an opportunity to use the deep love of him by the daughter to attain a level of absolution of his "sins" from his now-departed mother.

The roles of Jim, of the farmer and his daughter are three of the most challenging and rewarding roles for actors in the modern theater; they are played by Will Burke, Malcolm Sanford and Cindy Lasley. Important supporting roles are played by Quinn Lundquist, who runs away from the tyranny of his father and the disgrace of his sister at the opening of the show; and Sam Richardson as T. Stedman Harder, the "English gentlemen" neighbor who comes to complain that the farmer's pigs are wallowing in his ice pond, only to be dispatched in frustration when he gets a raucous Irish blessing from father and daughter.

The intertwining of bold Irish humor and deep human tragedy that runs through the play makes it an absorbing emotional experience for audience members prepared to immerse themselves in this engrossing drama.

The show will run Friday and Saturday nights starting at 8PM with Sunday matinees starting at 2PM for three weekends (May 6-23, 2011).

Tickets will be available one week prior to opening night at Book Gallery West in Gainesville, FL for $10 and at the door before each performance.
