Hosted by the Light and Peace Mission, which serves as both a hospital and a church, Gesundheit! Institute partnered with GTAH on its mission to provide medical attention and spiritual uplifting to the community. Located north of Port au Prince, the suburban Bon Repos hosts 6,000 refugees who are camped out in Tent Cities, in which the conditions are grim.
By the end of the mission, medical attention was administered to over 500 patients. Donations included yoga mats, tents, utensils, dry milk, newborn kits, pillows, medical supplies, vitamins, soccer balls, tee shirts, shoes, diapers, various toiletries, towels, beanie babies, flashlights, school supplies, washcloths, toys and blankets.
The mission's Educational Coordinator engaged the 40 children at the orphanage in storytelling, arts and crafts, music, singing, writing, and reading. On the last evening, they applied their accumulated skills to make thank-you cards for the members of the mission. Not only did their efforts provide medical attention, but raised spirits, laughter, and smiles.
