  • This is COMMON! Contact BMW North America and complain. File a claim with the Better Business Bureau. BMW is denying the power steering fault. They will not help you!

  • Wait... Are you seriously arguing that a law about not putting your transmission in reverse trumps the moral imperative to help someone in a burning car?

Would you jaywalk to help an old lady who fell and apparently broke a bone across the street from you if you felt it was safe to do so, or would you wait for someone to come along on the other side of the street, and ignore her?

Your argument regarding the importance of law in this context is a weak red herring.

  • Obviously since failing to assist is not a national law and is only applicable in some states, it is not as important as a federal law.

  • um... so is failing to assist at the scene of an accident. Which do you think has more moral weight?

  • backing up on a freeway, on-ramp or off-ramp is illegal, sir.

  • its to do with the electrics in the power steering.. :)

  • hahahahahahahahaa

  • They do use electric power steering. DC motor directly drives the hydraulic pump.

There is a 100 amp fused link underneath the motor. I don't know if the fused link or wiring is causing the fire when the steering motor internally shorts.

Internal motor electronics have constant DC applied.. even when car is off. If electronics decide to short, then potential fire. They need to install a relay to completely disconnect the motor from the battery when vehicle ignition is off.

  • Mini's don't use electrical power steering.
