The traditional handheld firework in Japan's Mikawa-region is called "Tedsutsu Hanabi" and is quite spectacular. The film was shot in Shinshiro-city (Aichi prefecture). Homepage: http://www.city.shinshiro.aichi.jp/

  • I'm very much in awe. I've never seen any fireworks display like that. It must be dangerous. What a great art form.

  • I was very much surprised myself to discover this spectacular art of fireworks display on the Japanese countryside.

  • Asians way of playing with fire? Looks very dangerous!

Why do they risk such a tradition? Knowing you could get burned?

Some people just love to melt? I guess? lol....looks like a human sparkler! Extra thick with fire showers? ;-)

  • this Is actually a ceremony into manhood they each have to make one themselves and this is very dangerous they have had many life threating injuries

  • Wow! This is incredible! Never have seen anything like it!

  • I participated in this festival in 2006 as one of the fireworks bearers. It was a great honor being a Gaijin and being allowed to participate. I particularly enjoyed chanting 'Washoi' as we pulled a cart through town and danced around the sake barrels at each intersection before holding the fireworks that evening. It was an amazing experience...

  • My hometown is Toyohashi city near of Shinshiro. When a high school classmate played the 'tedutsu-hanabi', he said to me that "a fatal accident has been happened at HANE(explosively finishing)".

    私は新城の隣の豊橋出身なのですが、高校時代に旧友が手筒花火をやった時「最後のはねで爆発して死んだ人がいる」って彼から聞いたです。(下手な英語ですまん)

  • GREAT and dangerous.Verry cool
