Tax Day Protest, Washington, DC, April 18, 2011

Raw footage of the protest that happened in Washington, DC on Tax Day to protest the actions of corporations (such as paying little to no taxes and being guilty of excessive pollution). This march was one of a number of actions that took place across the United States and it includes a person dressed in a panda costume, a marching band, and a bunch of giant-sized puppets representing corporations like BP and politicians like Mitch McConnell.

The demonstration stopped outside the White House, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, BP lobby headquarters, and GenOn's main offices. As you can see in the footage, this march drew a lot of people for a Monday afternoon yet it was ignored by the mainstream media.

Powershift is much more than protesting taxes. It is a rally to show our support for a clean energy future and to demand that our politicians hear the voice of the young people, not the big corporations that try to influence policy in their favor by throwing money at policy makers.  Its supposed to show that although they have power in money, we have power in people. And we aren't going to sit down as our needs are ignored by these groups.
