Your mistaken. He didn't beat his ass. Actually mayhem had the only submission attempt that was nearly successful when Jake was saved by the bell. Also. They both lasted all five. Going into a unanimous decision where Jake got 48/47 49/46 49/46. Therefor making it a close fight.

@crackmunk ESPN: Bloodied St Pierre decisions Shields: " Georges St Pierre didn't get off unscathed. Jake Shields landed stiff jabs and right crosses, sometimes it seemed at will. One punch damaged St Pierre's eye. Shields striking was much better than advertised."
MMAnthem: Many fans thought Shields won the fight on aggression and damage. We disagree, while he did more damage & won the final rounds convincingly, Shields didn't do enough to take the belt from a sitting champ, one more round.

@crackmunk GSP took Shields down with 18 seconds, Jake worked GSP's ribs while slipping his hips into position for a sweep. Tried one more TD and Shields turned & took Georges leg and GSP had to fight hard to get back to his feet.
"The game plan was to stay far away from Shields to avoid his take downs" The reason GSP back peddled the whole fight. After Jake saw that Georges was never going to bang he started waving St Pierre to come meet him center cage.
He won the rest of the fight, 48-47
