The Atomium is a monument built for Expo '58, the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. Designed by André Waterkeyn, it is 102-metres l, with nine steel spheres connected so that the whole forms the shape of a unit cell of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times.

Tubes which connect the spheres along the 12 edges of the cube and all eight vertices to the centre enclose escalators connecting the spheres which contain exhibit halls and other public spaces. The top sphere provides a panoramic view of Brussels. Each sphere is 18 metres in diameter.

My channel on you tube : http://www.youtube.com/alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland. I have produced a number of films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occasional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects

There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- http://www.ceepackaging.com - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focussing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers. Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!

  • 26 Sept!! Oh my! I was about 80 miles north of you in Gouda.Yes i do remember that day very well; it was exceptionally warm in Holland too.We were just getting an Indonesian meal for 2 when you shot this. There was too much for us in the end.You should have popped up and helped us out ! Small world!!

  • And as you can see from the following film Brussels Night Out I also had something similar to eat!

The Sunday was also hot. I went to Eben Emael as soon will be revealed when I post the video!

  • Ah; the Sunday was Wilmas 48th birthday ao we were out on the balcony with the rest of the Verlooij clan drinking Amstel.

Pop Verlooij ( wilmas dad) is 78 and has a few tales to tell about the German occupation.Perhaps you could interview him one day!

  • That sounds good to me - the next time I am in the area - which admittedly does not happen very often!

  • interesting looked structure. my dad is in brussels now for a confirence. i wonder if he will see this.

  • If he ends up anywhere in the north of the city, he will have difficulty missing it!
