Olympic National Park coast hikie, 5/14-17/09, from Neah Bay in the Makah Indian Nation to Lake Ozette. Camped out first night at Shi Shi Beach. I was the only there! Beautiful but a bit lonely/spooky. Crossed several headlands and steep cliffs the second day - sometimes hundreds of feet up and down on a nylon rope - scary and very hard. Arrived quite exhausted the second night at the north bank of the Ozette River. Had been two days with out seeing another person. Was nice to meet 4 folks who arrived late that evening there.

Day 3 I forded the Ozette River at low tide, in bare feet to keep my boots dry. Was so cold I thought I would faint! Then hiked to Cape Alava passing deer, bald eagles and barking sea lions, along a very rocky coast to Sand Point. Lovely camping on the south side of Sand Point.

Day 4 hiked 3 miles on a lovely flat trail to Lake Ozette.

  • beautiful trip! I understand the spooky loneliness of being on the beach. I think it is because the ocean is so big one feels small in comparison.

  • Neat!

  • Looks like it was a really neat trip! Sure is beautiful out there..
