Blackpool has spawned rather a lot of great, music people - a fact that this montage celebrates. The town has also played it's role as a great venue for some choice, culturally significant happenings, for instance - The Stone Roses' legendary Blackpool gig in 1989 at the world famous Empress Ballroom. Back in the late 1970s - The Blackpool Mecca Highland Rooms was arguably the most progressive, sophisticated, Northern Soul night on the planet, with a cooler edge than the stomping Wigan Casino. Since the mid-1990s Blackpool has been staging the world's biggest annual Punk festival W.A.S.T.E.D. recently renamed Rebellion www.Rebellionfestivals.com

The accompanying early 1980s soundtrack is by The Membranes (John Robb's band - the man who, later as an esteemed music journalist, first coined the term Britpop).
