I took down my ten year-old locs. It took me 19 days total. This video shows me on the first day after taking them down. My hair wasn't very stretched out (if that matters). I'll probably post a video of my hair straightened for a better comparison/sense of how much hair I "retained".

NOTE: I use Kimmaytube's techique for pre-treating, shampooing, detangling, and conditioning now. See there (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1FQ79FD2VY) for more details. I will post a response to her at some point, I guess, with my mods.

Products mentioned in this video:

- Indra shampoo (Sulfate-free!)
- Alverde Aloe Vera & Hibiscus conditioner (no cones!)
- Giovanni Deeper Moisture Conditioner
- Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner
Karen's Body Beautiful - Hair Milk (Honey Oatmeal scent) - I think I may be allergic to this...

  • No offense but you look alot younger without the locs! I have locs myself and love locs, but i must admit, removing the locs gave you a more youthful look. Either way, i hope you're enjoy your hair! :)

  • @Tay0307 - no offense taken! i am actually flattered. thanks! i am enjoying the youthful look and find that taking my locs down has helped me gain a new found interest in taking good care of myself inside and out. thanks for watching!

  • You lost a lot of hair, but it's still great to know that one doesn't have to cut the locs off in order to get rid of locs.

  • @abbeymore1 - Well I don't think of it as "losing", I think of it as ten years of shedding happening at once. It's also important to note that I cut off quite a bit before I started taking them down.

  • Beautiful locs! Also love the after locs look. well done.

  • @olamina true

  • @olamina--So you recommend wetting the hair? My friend was thinking of using only conditioner to soften the locs, thinking water would make the loc hair matt together more than ever. You've given us both something to think about. Thanks for the tips!!!

  • @TwistedNaturally - well be careful when you get to the point where the loc'd hair meets the loose hair. you can surely get breakage there, especially at the temples. just take it slow and easy. use water and conditioner to soften and be patient!

  • @TwistedNaturally - i am really happy with the loose hair. there are frustrating moments when i cant believe how short my hair is now, but i dont miss my locs at all. i cant believe i had them for ten years!

  • How are you enjoying your loose hair?
