The song is called The Dutchman and was most famously recorded by the late Steve Goodman ...(who penned the best damn railroad song of all time.....City of New Orleans).........on his second album Somebody Else's Troubles in the early 70s. But this song was written by Steve's friend in Chicago..MICHAEL PETER SMITH.....who also wrote another song that I do and is here on YouTube....Spoon River......

Its called The Dutchman. Written (I think) by Archie Fisher.

I wish I could see him more often down South - he's one of my (few) heroes

lovely sensitive rendition,it has been my privilege to have seen Eddie play a number of times here at the Edinburgh Folk Club. Very fine songwriter and performer.... whether picking out superb ragtime solos or singing ballads, he always gives a great performance.

maybye he should change his name to 'Big Bill Boozey'...more character than his real name
