I've recorded my interpretation of Brian Mays arrangement of the British anthem "God Save The Queen".
I've used no tabs or scores when playing it, I've done it by ear and I think I came pretty close at least :P

It's recorded with my Burns Red Special (Brian May signature guitar) plugged into my Digitech Red Special Pedal on the 7th setting (Deacy Amp) in the green or toe mode. Gain and Volume almost flat out. I could have used less gain but the notes seem to blend more at high gain. It's then plugged direct into Logic Pro 9 on my iMac.
It's a total of 35 layers of guitar, and I'm planning on doing some more overdubs to get a richer sound.

I've used the bridge and middle pic ups (in phase) for all the guitars.

There are no drums or bass recorded... yet. I might do that tomorrow and put up a new version.

I'm also working on a cover of "Good Company", but that's taking some time since it's a lot more work to get the exact right sound.

Let me know what you think!

  • @haicos2000 Hehe, ok, I have no idea what you mean but thanks for commenting! :P

  • Very nice cover, good job!

  • @TheBaronVonP Thank you!

  • Nice. How many guitar parts did you record at the fullest parts? A dozen? I think the lowest uses an octave divider from bar 6. I keep meaning to record this myself having just bought Logic Pro 9 for my Mac Pro. I sold my Digitech and don't have the Red Special guitar so I will have to try and recreate the sound on a strat. I have access to timps but transporting them to my place may be tricky!

  • @MunchyToy On this version I don't know but I have a new and better version that I'll upload soon and on that track there are about 60 seperate tracks. I recorded almost all parts 4 times with different mic-settings to give it more tone. I think I've over done it, don't think there are that many guitars on the original! :P

  • Thanks^^ Yes, I didn't want to use midi so I'm hunting down a good drummer to record it for me :) I've used Logic Pro 9, recorded direct from my guitar through a red special digitech pedal and into my iMacs internal sound card.

  • Excellent. Only two things missing...cymbal swells and timpani drums at the end:-) P.S. What system did you use to record and mix this?
