It's sort of a propane spectrum analyzer http://www.fattyco.org/gaslog

It's actually a Ruben's Tube, but made to fit inside my fireplace. It's actually too large in diameter and too short to set up good standing waves, but it's still a lot of fun.

  • whats the song?

  • Da Funk, Daft Punk of course.

  • dude, you need to have opposing speakers to get the cool wave effect...

  • Actually that is not necessarily correct. Speakers could be placed at either end and wired in-phase or out-of-phase to produce different patterns but the correct method for producing standing waves involves having a tube that is long and narrow enough to produce standing pressure waves. Since this tube was designed to fit in the fireplace and produce lots of fire it had to be very short (16 inches) and have a speaker capable of producing fairly high SPL (6" woofer) ..

  • Also of note; you can get standing waves in this tube with sustained specific low frequencies but I don't have a video of it.
