I watched the first 5 seasons of the original MI. Peter Graves is correct. The mission involved getting the criminal faction to self implode. Many times the bad guys ended up not trusting each other. All of this bought on by the influence of the IMF team. Later the bad guys would kill each other. The script was laden with clever devices to achieve an end. The new MI movies with Cruise lack this cleverness, and are more closely tied to simple crime tv dramas with a bunch of stunts thrown in.

I totally agree with Mr. Graves, Cruise´s M.I.1-3 are a total sack of money but NO brain cells on these agents they´re only cute, hot, cool, make "great" stunts (still S.Effects) but they don´t THINK, at all, so predictible. . . I just saw M.I.3. and it sucks (as usual, duh!) I only saw it cause Hoffman is my favorite actor and i gotta see him, but the movie it´s all about Hunt´s (Cruise´s) wife. . . TOM CRUISE RUIN THE CONCEPT OF MISSION IMPOSSIBLE.
