Once again, North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue and Department of Health & Human Services Secretary Laneir Cansler are proposing to cut home care to Medicaid Private Duty Nursing (PDN) patients who suffer from MS, Cerebral Palsy and many other crippling diseases, etc.
Medicaid PDN is a small, but critical program that serves some 400 of the sickest and frailest people in North Carolina. A good number of these patients are paralyzed, have tracheotomies, use ventilators and many are fed through tubes. Many are infants and young children.
Please take a moment to look at this video which tells the beautiful story of eleven of these patients.
I ask that you please forward this video and email with your family, co-workers, and friends to tell Governor Perdue and Secretary Cansler not to cut this vital home care. We are currently airing this video across North Carolina on cable television. And we are sending it to legislators and members of the press. I thank you and these patients for helping make this possible.
Cordially,
Timothy R. "Tim" Rogers, CEO
Assoc. for Home & Hospice Care of North Carolina
These are people who are the MOST needy and vulnerable. What kind of a society are we? I can't even get home health for my severe Traumatic brain injured husband. His SSDI will always put him slightly above the poverty cut off for any medicaid help. So I care for him alone.I can't work because he can't be left alone. He would have qualified for Intermediate level Long term Care but NC just cut that out of the budget Fall 09.

IT's sad. I work for Bayada...home health care in NC. It's not right. Would cost medicaid MORE to keep these people in hospital/facilities.
