If you've ever thought it would be cool to operate a Bobcat or a bulldozer, this may be the perfect job for you. For more information on the heavy equipment operator training program, call York Tech's admissions office at 803-327-8008.
Most companies do not take people that just come out of the course and wont even look at you. Unless you want to be a labourer and go on heavy equipment once in a blue moon.... even then the pay is like 15 an hour. You need the experience.
I just took a job. I have no experience and they are training me on all the equipment associated to road construction here in Alberta, Canada. $30/hr 12 hr days/7 days a week. No benefits or overtime. Do the math. Still great money even without the O.T. Besides once I got the experience, I can go somewhere where they do pay O.T. And have benefits. As it is right now, those companies won't even look at me. I'm super stoked, gonna be crazy hours but will be excellent experience.
ah that sucks dude. Seems like in the states you're lucky to have a job. The construction industry in general is great up here. I'm a carpenter but the intensive labour is taking a toll so I'm starting my HEO program in sept. The gov't created the HEO certification program just a few years ago because there's not enough experienced operators here. Alberta there's the oil fields, tons of jobs.
Theres not much hiring going on around here in maryland in the u.s. as far as I can tell.. and the few jobs out there they wages have gone to sh*t. Maybe I need to move to canada?
@darensmiles4 well it depends where you live. I'm in canada and it's booming. I see heavy equipment everywhere. But that's odd in this video he said 12 to 15$ an hour. Here they get 25 to 35 an hour.
