In the mid 80`s he produced the same track on a record called NYCats direct.
However I find this version better.
Along with many other guitarists like Bill Connors, Steve Khan he changed in the 80`s to a more smooth Jazz guitar style and in my opinion he lost his tension and pressure, whilst I agree that the heavy guitar of the 70`s may have blown away some wispy ears I prefer those times

I recorded and mixed this album-this brings back great memories. Will Lee on bass, Steve Gadd and Rick Marotta on drums, Reubens Bassini on perc., smokin' horn section, Don Grolnick on keys, and John crankin' out great solos in the basement studio at House of Music. I loved hearing it on Eyewitness News.

And that this replaced Leroy Anderson's 1958 re-recording of his composition "Forgotten Dreams," which had been the Friday evening and late weekend closing theme prior to this.
-
WABC-TV in New York evidently thought highly of this tune, to use as the closing theme for the Friday night editions of "Eyewitness News" from c.1977 through 1980.

I agree! I don't know about the technicalities and nuances of guitar playing, but the original version is "way" better than the NYCats version. Seems almost like a pro ballplayer who was hungry as a rookie, burt loses his edge as he gets older.
Great song. Wore this one out back in the 70's. John Tropea was a diamond in the rough.
