  • Richie Benaud sounds as excited as Bill Lawry here :-)

  • Unusual action, but he seems to be greased lightning. Legend! Imagine what he could've achieved at Test level.

  • he's my cousin :)

  • @GetBackToNowhere No we don't get crowds like that anymore. :(

  • Brute force from Proctor-a very strong guy with a fast arm action. And swing.

  • Geese, look at the crowds. Do they get anywhere near that for domestic games in England anymore?

Was sad seeing hardly any spectators at the sheffield shield final

  • Great to watch this again. When Richie Benaud shouts 'bowled him!' on the hat trick ball, that's the only time I can remember him getting so excited he shouts! Brilliant player Proctor. I totally agreed with the ban imposed on South Africa during his time, but it is a massive shame that players like Proctor and several other top quality cricketers missed out in this period.

  • south africa we're banned because the sa government decided who could and couldn't play for mcc(basil d'oliviera} in south africa.it was to do with the matter of cricket selection, though later on it became a matter of objecting to apartheid overall.the united cricket board in south africa had become multi racial in the late 70's.apartheid was slowly but surely being deconstructed but until nelson mandela was released no official tour could take place.

  • As a Hampshire fan unfortunately can remember this well. Great all rounder

  • @righteousrobbo - And yet one or two other countries have not been cut off from international sport, if only because their military dictatorship was only a case of brown people oppressing brown people rather than white oppressing black. Not everything's lovely in Zimbabwe these days, but again, that's just a black oppressor, so nothing to worry about really.

I remember this performance from 1977. Procter was awesome.
