The notorious one-take, on the spot, improvised recording that took place in the queensbridge projects in marley marl's apartment. This is the one people heard first in 1984. Roxanne recorded it off the top of her head between laundry cycles. The video version is the studio recorded version they had to make after being sued by UTFO for copyright infringement.

@Danielle9730 - We were all 13 when this came out and it was the epitome (that means opposite of "ghey") of hip hop. You haven't missed the music, but you probably missed the breakin' and poppin' that went with it...regular battles at school, at the community centers, at the dances...kids rarely shot each other then, too.

I was only 10 years old when this came out......& for that fact...that's long before MC Lyte, Queen Latifah or anybody else within the circuit of female MC's ever came out to do this......she was the dopest!!!
